Dame Penelope Alice Wilton, Lady Holm (born 3 June 1946), is an English actress known for her versatile performances in film, television, and stage. She rose to prominence starring opposite Richard Briers in the BBC sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles (1984–1989). Wilton showcased her talent in memorable roles such as Homily in The Borrowers (1992) and its sequel, The Return of the Borrowers (1993). She gained wide recognition for her portrayal of the widowed Isobel Crawley in the beloved ITV drama Downton Abbey (2010–2015). Additionally, Wilton made notable appearances as Harriet Jones in Doctor Who (2005–2008) and as Anne in Ricky Gervais' dark comedy After Life on Netflix. With six Olivier Award nominations, her stage career has been equally impressive, culminating in a win for Best Actress in 2015 for Taken at Midnight.
