Rance Howard (1928-2017), born Harold Engle Beckenholdt, was an American actor known for his work in film and television. He appeared in notable films such as Cool Hand Luke (1967), Chinatown (1974), Splash (1984), Apollo 13 (1995), and Frost/Nixon (2008). Howard received a Primetime Emmy Award for co-producing the television film The Time Crystal (1981). He was the father of actor and filmmaker Ron Howard and actor Clint Howard, and the grandfather of actresses Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard. Rance Howard was born in Newkirk, Oklahoma and changed his name when he entered acting. He graduated from Shidler High School and studied at the University of Oklahoma.
