Richard Todd (11 June 1919 – 3 December 2009) was an Irish-British actor known for his leading man roles in the 1950s. He received a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Male and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Hasty Heart (1949). Notable films include Stage Fright (1950), The Dam Busters (1955), The Virgin Queen (1955), and The Longest Day (1962). Prior to his acting career, Todd served as a Captain in the British Army during World War II and participated in the D-Day landings as a member of the 7th (Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion. Born in Dublin, Todd's father was an Irish physician and rugby player.
