Roxane Gay (born October 15, 1974) is an American writer, professor, editor, and social commentator. She is widely recognized for her best-selling essay collection, Bad Feminist (2014), as well as other notable works including Ayiti (2011), An Untamed State (2014), Difficult Women (2017), and Hunger (2017). Gay has held teaching positions at Eastern Illinois University and Purdue University, and currently serves as a visiting professor at Yale University. In addition to her writing, she contributes opinion pieces to The New York Times, founded Tiny Hardcore Press, serves as essays editor for The Rumpus, co-edits PANK, a literary arts collective, and is the editor for Gay Mag. Gay was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Haitian parents.
