Wright is the son of Major-General Richard Gerrard-Wright and Susan (née Young). He has a brother named Lance Gerrard-Wright, who is the second husband of television presenter Ulrika Jonsson. Wright and his brother attended Lambrook Preparatory School in Berkshire. In addition to his successful acting career, Wright is married to actress Melanie Gutteridge.
