Scott Thompson, born John Scott Thompson on June 12, 1959, is a Canadian actor and comedian. He is widely recognized for his work as a member of the comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall and for his portrayal of Brian on The Larry Sanders Show. Thompson was born in North Bay, Ontario and grew up in Brampton. He dropped the name 'John' to simplify his stage name. He attended Brampton Centennial Secondary School, where he witnessed the 1975 Centennial Secondary School shooting. Thompson briefly studied at York University before joining the comedy troupe The Love Cats, where he met Mark McKinney. In 1984, he became a member of The Kids in the Hall, known for their sketch comedy series which aired on CBC and HBO. Thompson is openly gay and gained recognition for his monologues on the show.
