Sharlto Copley (born November 27, 1973) is a South African actor known for his roles in various movies and TV shows. He gained recognition for his performance in the Academy Award-nominated science fiction film District 9. Copley has also appeared in other notable films such as The A-Team, Elysium, Europa Report, Maleficent, and Chappie, where he played the title character. Additionally, he portrayed Jimmy in the film Hardcore Henry and starred as Christian Walker in two seasons of the TV series Powers. Copley was born in Johannesburg and attended St. Andrew's Preparatory School and Redhill School. He is married to South African actress and supermodel Tanit Phoenix.
