Stana Katic is a Canadian actress and producer, born on April 26, 1978, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She is best known for her roles as Kate Beckett in the ABC television series Castle (2009-2016) and FBI Special Agent Emily Byrne in the thriller series Absentia (2017-2020). Katic's parents are Serbs from Croatia, and she has described her ethnicity as Dalmatian, with Serbian, Croatian, and Montenegrin heritage. After moving to Aurora, Illinois, she attended West Aurora High School before pursuing studies in International Relations, Economics, and pre-law at the University of Toronto's Trinity College and The Theatre School at DePaul University.
