    Tom Joyner Biography
    Tom Joyner, born on November 23, 1949, is an American radio personality, host, philanthropist, and former musician. He is best known for his role as the former host of the nationally syndicated radio show, The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Joyner is also the founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, Joyner hails from an educated family. His grandfather, Oscar, was one of the few black physicians in the United States. Both of his parents were graduates of historically black colleges, and Joyner himself attended Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University, where he obtained a degree in sociology. Joyner initially aspired to be a musician and joined a band called the Commodores with his college friend Lionel Richie, but the band did not find success.
