Tracy Chapman (born March 30, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter. She gained fame with her hit singles 'Fast Car' (1988) and 'Give Me One Reason' (1995). Chapman was signed to Elektra Records in 1987 and released her debut album, Tracy Chapman, in 1988. The album was a commercial success and received six Grammy Award nominations, winning three. Her second album, Crossroads (1989), earned her another Grammy nomination. Chapman's third album, Matters of the Heart (1992), was followed by her fourth album, New Beginning (1995), which achieved global success. Throughout her career, Tracy Chapman has been recognized for her soulful voice and socially conscious lyrics.
