W. Earl Brown is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, musician, and songwriter. Born on September 7, 1963, in Golden Pond, Kentucky, he earned a bachelor's degree from Murray State University and later pursued an MFA from DePaul University Theatre School in 1989. Brown is known for his versatile roles in both films and television shows. He has appeared in popular movies such as Scream (1996), There's Something About Mary (1998), Backdraft, The Master, Being John Malkovich, The Sessions, Vanilla Sky, The Lone Ranger, and Bloodworth. On television, he gained recognition for his portrayal of Dan Dority in the HBO series Deadwood (2004-2006), and has also appeared in Seinfeld, NYPD Blue, C.S.I., C.S.I.
