Werner Klemperer Biography
Werner Klemperer (March 22, 1920 – December 6, 2000) was a German-American actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Colonel Wilhelm Klink on the CBS television sitcom Hogan's Heroes, earning him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 1968 and 1969. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, Klemperer began his acting career on Broadway in 1947. He appeared in various films including The Wrong Man (1956), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), and Houseboat (1958). Klemperer also had numerous television roles, featuring on shows such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Perry Mason, Maverick, Gunsmoke, The Untouchables, and Have Gun Will Travel. Born in Cologne, Germany, Klemperer hailed from a musical family, although he admitted to having little musical talent.
