Whoopi Goldberg, born Caryn Elaine Johnson on November 13, 1955, is an American actor, comedian, author, and television personality. She is one of 18 entertainers to achieve the EGOT status, having won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award. Goldberg gained recognition with her one-woman show, Spook Show, which later became a Broadway production titled Whoopi Goldberg. In 1985, she made her film breakthrough with the role of Celie in The Color Purple, earning her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Goldberg also won an Academy Award for her performance in Ghost (1990). Her achievements include a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
