Yeardley Smith, born Martha Maria Yeardley Smith on July 3, 1964, is an American actress known for her role as the voice of Lisa Simpson on the long-running animated TV series, The Simpsons. After graduating from drama school in 1982, Smith began her acting career. She made her film debut in 1985's Heaven Help Us and appeared in movies such as The Legend of Billie Jean and Maximum Overdrive. In 1987, Smith auditioned for the Simpson shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show and was cast as Lisa instead of Bart. The shorts eventually became the popular show, The Simpsons. Smith received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1992 for her work on the show.
