Bruce McCarty Biography
Bruce McCarty (1920-2013) was an American architect and founder of McCarty Holsaple McCarty Architects in Knoxville, Tennessee. With a career spanning over 50 years, McCarty was known for designing iconic landmarks and promoting Modern architecture in the city. Some of his notable works include the Lawson McGhee Library, Knoxville City County Building, University of Tennessee Humanities Complex, Clarence Brown Theatre, and University of Tennessee Art and Architecture Building. He also served as the Master Architect for the 1982 World's Fair. Born in South Bend, Indiana, McCarty grew up in Kenosha and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He attended Princeton University, where he studied sculpture.
