Chris Bauer, born Mark Christopher Bauer on October 28, 1966, is an American actor known for his television work in The Wire, Third Watch, True Blood, Survivor's Remorse, The Deuce, and the Apple TV+ series For All Mankind. He has also appeared on Broadway, notably as Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire, and has originated roles in plays by David Mamet, John Patrick Shanley, and Jez Butterworth. Born in Los Angeles, California, Bauer is of German and Irish descent. He attended Miramonte High School and played on the football team when they won the state championship in 1984. Bauer later studied at the University of San Diego, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and graduated from the Yale School of Drama. In The Wire, he portrayed port-union boss Frank Sobotka after originally auditioning for the role of Jimmy McNulty.
