Joan Alexandra Molinsky, known professionally as Joan Rivers, was an American comedian, actress, producer, writer, and television host. Born on June 8, 1933, she was noted for her blunt and often controversial comedic persona, delivered in her signature New York accent. Rivers started her career in comedy clubs in Greenwich Village, rising to prominence as a guest on The Tonight Show in 1965. She became the first woman to host a late night network television talk show with The Late Show with Joan Rivers in 1986. Rivers received an Emmy Award and a Grammy Award, and was nominated for a Tony Award. She is considered a pioneer for women in comedy.
