    Joseph William Namath, born on May 31, 1943, is a former American football quarterback who played in the American Football League (AFL) and National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons. Namath is best known for his tenure with the New York Jets, where he played for five AFL seasons, winning one AFL championship and one Super Bowl. Following the AFL–NFL merger, Namath continued to play for the Jets, leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns during the 1972 season. He later spent his final season with the Los Angeles Rams. Namath's legacy was solidified in 1969 when he guaranteed a victory in Super Bowl III and led the Jets to a historic win.
