Joey Ramone, born Jeffrey Ross Hyman on May 19, 1951, in Queens, New York City, was an American singer and countercultural icon. He is best known as the lead vocalist and founding member of the punk rock band Ramones. Alongside guitarist Johnny Ramone, Joey was one of the only two original members who remained with the band until its disbandment in 1996. Raised in Forest Hills, Queens, Joey grew up with his brother Mickey Leigh and attended Forest Hills High School. Despite being diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and schizophrenia at the age of 18, Joey's talent and unique voice made him a prominent figure in the music industry.
