Mustafa Shakir (born August 21, 1976) is an American actor known for his roles in Marvel's Luke Cage, The Deuce, and the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. He was born in North Carolina and raised in Harlem. Shakir attended The New School and graduated in 2001. Prior to his acting career, he worked as a barber. While he auditioned for roles in Black Lightning and Black Panther, Shakir gained recognition as John McIver/Bushmaster in the second season of Luke Cage. He also starred as Jet Black in the Netflix series Cowboy Bebop. Shakir follows a strict vegan lifestyle.
