    Zain Javadd Malik, professionally known as Zayn Malik or simply Zayn, is a British singer and former member of the boy band One Direction. Born on January 12, 1993, Malik gained recognition after auditioning as a solo contestant on the British music competition series The X Factor in 2010. Although eliminated initially, he was brought back to form One Direction, which became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. In March 2015, Malik left the group and signed a solo recording contract with RCA Records.
