An omnipotent artificial intelligence selects Carol Peters, an ordinary former tech executive now focused on nonprofit work, as the subject of its study. As the machine weighs options to save, subjugate, or destroy humanity, Carol must convince the intelligence that people deserve continued existence amid escalating political and technological pressures.
