Jimmy L. Smits (born July 9, 1955) is an American actor known for his roles in various TV shows and movies. He gained recognition for his portrayal of attorney Victor Sifuentes in the legal drama L.A. Law, and NYPD Detective Bobby Simone in the police drama NYPD Blue. Smits also starred as Matt Santos in the political drama The West Wing and appeared in films such as Switch, My Family, The Jane Austen Book Club, and In the Heights. He has notably appeared in the Star Wars franchise as Bail Organa and as ADA Miguel Prado in Dexter. Smits also had a main role as Nero Padilla in Sons of Anarchy. He portrayed Elijah Strait in the NBC drama series Bluff City Law. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Smits comes from a diverse background, with his father being of Dutch descent from Suriname and his mother being Puerto Rican.
