Jonathan Vincent Voight, born on December 29, 1938, is an American actor renowned for his contributions to the film industry. Voight gained recognition for his role as Joe Buck, a struggling gigolo, in Midnight Cowboy (1969), which earned him a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. Throughout the 1970s, he portrayed diverse characters, including a businessman caught up in murder in Deliverance (1972), a paraplegic Vietnam veteran in Coming Home (1978), and a destitute ex-boxing champion in The Champ (1979), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. Voight has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and four Golden Globe Awards, and has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards.
