He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of John Carter in the long-running TV series ER (1994-2009), garnering nominations for multiple Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Awards. Wyle's notable roles include Flynn Carsen in The Librarian franchise, which started as a series of TV movies and later became a television series from 2013 to 2018.
