Brendan Gleeson portrays Detective Bill Hodges, the retired police detective haunted by an unsolved case. Hodges becomes obsessed with capturing Brady Hartsfield, a mass murderer who torments him through a series of disturbing letters.

Harry Treadaway takes on the role of Brady Hartsfield, a disturbed and manipulative young man who commits a horrifying act of violence and successfully evades capture. He later engages in a cat-and-mouse game with Detective Hodges, taunting him with his plans for more destruction.

Kelly Lynch plays Deborah Hartsfield, Brady's mother. She has a complex relationship with her son and struggles to come to terms with his dark and twisted nature, while also concealing her own secrets.

Jharrel Jerome portrays Jerome Robinson, a young man who becomes a friend and ally to Detective Hodges. He assists Hodges in his investigation into the Mercedes Killer and provides a fresh perspective on the case.
