The Chair Cast

Sandra Oh portrays Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman of color to be appointed as the chair of the English department at Pembroke University. Dr. Kim is a dedicated and passionate academic who faces numerous challenges in her new role.

Jay Duplass plays the character of Bill Dobson, a charismatic and talented professor in the English department. Bill is known for his unorthodox teaching methods and rebellious attitude, which often put him at odds with the administration.

Bob Balaban takes on the role of Elliot Rentz, a long-time professor in the English department. Elliot is a highly respected and knowledgeable academic, but his advanced age and conservative views make it difficult for him to adapt to the changing dynamics of the department.

Nana Mensah portrays Yasmin 'Yaz' McKay, a young and ambitious professor in the English department. Yaz is dedicated to her research and is determined to make a name for herself in academia, but she must navigate the politics of the department and the challenges she faces as a woman of color.

Everly Carganilla plays the role of Ju-Hee 'Ju Ju' Kim, Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim's adopted daughter. Ju Ju is a bright and enthusiastic young girl who brings joy and laughter to her mother's life.

David Morse portrays Paul Larson, the dean of Pembroke University. Larson is a pragmatic and business-minded administrator who often clashes with Dr. Ji-Yoon Kim over the direction of the English department.

Holland Taylor plays the character of Joan Hambling, a veteran professor in the English department. Joan is wise and experienced, providing guidance and support to the other faculty members.

Simone Joy Jones takes on the role of Joy, a talented musician and student at Pembroke University. Joy becomes romantically involved with Bill Dobson, which adds complexity to their relationship as teacher and student.
